Does Your Audio System Sound So Good You Want To Cry?

Audio SystemOcala Car Audio wants to know if your audio system has ever given you an emotional experience. Does listening to a specific song take you back to a time and place? Does it remind you of someone? Music can be very powerful, and having a sound system that reproduces the songs you enjoy with clarity and detail can be truly exhilarating.

A Truly Happy Customer

Recently, we upgraded the audio system in a client’s Ford F-150. She and her husband weren’t happy with the way the truck’s original stereo sounded. It was lifeless and lacked detail and clarity. After inviting the couple to listen to a truck that we had upgraded recently, they gave us the go-ahead to install new speakers, a subwoofer and an amplifier with an integrated digital signal processor in their vehicle.

When they came to pick up the truck, we invited the owner to have a listen. Our founder, Parish Tanner, was in the truck with her as she listened to Rebecca Pidgeon’s version of “Spanish Harlem.” As the artist started singing, the client reached over and took hold of Parish’s arm. “I want to cry,” she said. The music in the truck sounded better than she imagined it could. As the song finished, she looked at him and said, “It sounds so good.” Truly, there is no higher praise for a job done properly than a positive emotional experience from a client.

How We Make Your Music Sound Better

Audio SystemIt’s relatively easy to install new audio equipment in a vehicle. The magic that transforms a pile of speakers and electronics into something spectacular comes from the way those components are configured. Proper speaker locations with high-quality mounting adapters and sound deadening are a great start. Installing amplifiers that provide enough clean power to let our customers turn the music up to the levels they want is the next step. Integrating the amplifier into the factory radio using the proper interfaces or modules is crucial to creating a system that sounds amazing. Finally, the process we use to fine-tune the digital signal processors we install results in music that sounds natural and realistic.

Our process goes one step further to create what is known as a soundstage. Rather than hearing the music coming from the speakers, we use accurate level and signal delay adjustments to make it sound as though the performance is happening right in front of you. The experience is like being at a live concert or sitting at the console of a recording studio.

Take Your Music With You

Whether you want to rock out to ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd or Metallica on your Harley, crank up Eminem or Drake in your SUV or tune in to WOGK in your car, we can create an audio system for you that will give you goosebumps and put a smile on your face.

Ford F-150 Stereo System Upgrade for The Villages Client

Ford F-150 StereoA client from The Villages recently dropped into Ocala Car Audio to talk about a 2016 Ford F-150 stereo upgrade project. His wife wasn’t impressed with the sound of the factory stereo system. We discussed what she liked about the existing audio system and where they thought it could use improvement. After listening to their concerns, we proposed a fairly elaborate upgrade with a premium digital source unit interface, a high-quality DSP-equipped amplifier, new speakers and a subwoofer.

System Design Consultation

The client was surprised at the complexity of our proposal and showed us a quote from a shop in Tampa that was about a third of the cost. Unfortunately, they hadn’t considered the client’s goals for the system and we felt that the result wouldn’t be much of an improvement. Armed with a full understanding of how and why we designed the upgrade we did, he decided he would come back with his wife and audition a similar system we had installed.

His wife was very impressed with the sound in the truck as it addressed all of her concerns. They gave us the go-ahead to upgrade their Ford F-150 stereo.

Ford F-150 Stereo System Integration

Ford F-150 Stereo
The purpose-built JL Audio Stealthbox was a perfect fit under the rear seats.

We used a PAC AmpPro AP4-FD21 interface to connect a JL Audio VX1000/5i five-channel amplifier to the factory radio. We added an APA-TOS1 TOSLINK interface so we could use a fiber optic cable to connect to the JL Audio VXi amplifier for maximum performance. The amp is wired with Stinger Pro power wire and is protected by an SPD5801 fuse. We also installed a DRC-205 remote level control so the clients can fine-tune the bass level.

The 600-watt subwoofer channel of the amp drives a JL Audio SB-F-150-SCDBL/12TW3/BK StealthBox subwoofer system that fits perfectly under the rear bench seat of the trunk. The enclosure houses a pair of 12TW3 12-inch subwoofers.

Ford Trunk Front Speaker Upgrade

Ford F-150 Stereo
The doors were upgraded with C3 speakers and sound deadener.
Ford F-150 Stereo
The JL Audio C3 tweeter fit perfectly in the factory location.
Ford F-150 Stereo
With our modifications complete, the door remained stock-looking.

The next step was to apply roughly 40 square feet of Stinger RoadKill sound deadening to the front and rear doors. Our fabrication team created plastic mounting adapters for a set of JL Audio C3-600 woofers and we mounted the tweeters in the factory locations in the A-pillars. Another set of adapters allowed us to mount a second set of C3-600 speakers in the rear doors. The front and rear channels of the amp deliver 75 watts to each of the speakers.

System Tuning and Delivery

The clients returned from The Villages on a Saturday morning to pick up the system. They had a listen to the truck and were blown away at the quality of the sound. One of them said,  “I want to cry, it sounds so good!” If you are in the Marion County area and are interested in upgrading the sound system in your car or truck, drop by Ocala Car Audio, give us a call or send us an e-mail.

Hertz Mille Pro Speakers Make Your Music Come Alive

Hertz Mille Pro SpeakersWhen it comes to getting great sound in your vehicle or on a motorcycle, Ocala Car Audio recommends Hertz Mille Pro speakers. Designed in Italy, Mille Pro component and coaxial speakers offer exceptionally smooth frequency response, excellent detail and great output capabilities. Whether you’re rocking out to your favorite bands or relaxing with jazz or classical music on a long drive, great speakers are a crucial component in recreating your music accurately.

Mille Pro Component Speakers

Hertz Mille Pro SpeakersSystems like the MPK 165.3 PRO and the impressive MPK 1650.3 PRO are considered among the best component speakers available. These systems combine premium technologies like the V-Cone woofer and Boundary Free Surround to offer smooth and detailed midrange performance with excellent midbass impact.

The tweeters included in these sets use Tetolon fiber domes for great dynamic performance and extended high-frequency response and clarity. The low resonant frequency of the tweeter helps to create a stable and accurate soundstage in any installation. Both systems include passive crossover networks with flexible configuration options that allow us to fine-tune the system once we install the woofers and tweeters in your vehicle.

If your application calls for a three-way speaker set, the MPK 163.3 PRO adds a 3-inch midrange and upgraded crossover to the MPK 165.3 kit. As more and more vehicles come with three-way front speaker systems, the MPK 163.3 PRO is a great upgrade!

Hertz Mille Pro Coaxial Speaker Solutions

Coaxial speakers often don’t get the credit they deserve. Case in point: the MPX 165.3 PRO 6.5-inch 2-way speaker set. These speakers sound great in the doors or rear deck of a vehicle and are one of our most popular solutions for motorcycle audio upgrades. The MPX 165.3 PRO speakers are rated for 100 watts of power handling, thanks to the large 36mm voice coil. The same pressed pulp woofer cone and soft dome tweeter design used in the component speakers ensure that these coaxial speakers sound amazing.

Hertz offers these same features and technologies in a 6×9 speaker with a three-way design called the MPX 690.3 PRO. A larger voice coil increases their power handling to an impressive 130 watts, and the increased surface area of the woofer improves bass response and system efficiency.

Experience Hertz Mille Pro Speakers at Ocala Car Audio

When it’s time to upgrade the realism and performance of your mobile sound system, drop by Ocala Car Audio and audition the Hertz Mille Pro speakers. We have several sizes on display and can let you know which suit your application the best. Be sure to bring your favorite music with you! Product Spotlight: JL Audio C3-650

JL Audio C3-650When it comes to speaker upgrades, the JL Audio C3-650 coaxial speaker set is one of our favorite upgrades here at Ocala Car Audio. This 6.5-inch convertible speaker set not only sounds great, but it can handle an impressive amount of power and offers excellent efficiency. Let’s take a look at the C3-650 up close.

JL Audio C3-650 Convertible Speaker Set

JL Audio C3-650What are convertible speakers? In the case of the C3-650, the 1-inch silk-dome tweeter can be installed in the center of the woofer to create a premium coaxial speaker design, or the tweeter can be mounted separately from the woofer to create a component set. If you are upgrading your car or truck, we typically mount the woofer in the door and the tweeter on the dash, in the sail panel at the top of the door or in the A-pillar to improve the height of the soundstage.

Speaker Features

The JL Audio C3-650 includes a pair of speakers, a set of passive crossover networks and a set of grilles. The woofer features an injection-molded polypropylene woofer cone that uses a mineral additive for added strength and thermal stability. The cone remains rigid, even at high volume levels. The tweeter in the set uses a 1-inch soft-dome diaphragm, and the kit includes flush and surface mounting accessories.

Great Sound in Application

JL Audio C3-650As we mentioned, we love the way C3-650 set sounds. Midrange and high-frequency information is smooth and detailed, and bass response is solid for a speaker of its size. Because the driver is efficient (90 dB of output when powered with 1 watt and measured at 1 meter), you don’t need a lot of power to produce a lot of sound. This is one of our favorite upgrades for motorcycles — an application where speaker efficiency is crucial.

Upgrade Your Sound System Today!

If you are in Central Florida and are looking for an amazing upgrade for your sound system, drop by Ocala Car Audio in downtown Ocala and ask for a demonstration of the C3-650 set. We know you’ll be impressed! You can contact us by e-mail for additional information about any of our products or services.

The Store

As you can expect, we are renovating and rejuvenating every aspect of the store. We’ve painted the exterior of the building and Anderson Tree Care has cleaned up the property, Carpet One has installed new carpet, Loco Graphics has installed new signs, Gooden Electric upgraded the electrical service for our needs, and we have brand-new Avidworx displays for our showroom. Our clients will be able to interact with and experience the products they are interested in purchasing better than ever before. We even have room for a motorcycle and car in the showroom to help demonstrate some of our many product and service offerings.

If our team has your vehicle in one of our two audio installation bays or our dedicated window tint and paint protection bay, our client café will be available for you to relax or get a little work done while we work on it. If you get a little hungry or thirsty, Jimmy John’s, Feta, Starbucks and Taco ‘N Madre are only a few footsteps away.

While we had a little more space at our previous location, the layout here on Pine Street is much more efficient. We can move cars in and out of the bays faster, which translates into improved efficiency. Everything is designed to provide our customers with better service and an amazing experience.

Lady Lake Client gets Ford F-450 Stereo and Lighting Upgrades

Ford F-450 StereoA client from Lady Lake contacted Ocala Car Audio in search of upgrades for his 2017 Ford F-450. He wanted to improve the stereo system and lighting. After meeting with the client and discussing how he liked to listen to his music, and what light upgrades he wanted, we worked together to devise an upgrade plan that would meet his performance goals.

Ford F-450 Stereo System Upgrade

Ford F-450 Stereo
Our technicians used plenty of sound deadening material to help make the JL Audio C5 speakers sound their best.

Ford sound systems can be difficult to upgrade reliably. We started the project with a PAC AmpPro AP4-FD21 interface that replaced the factory amplifier and its associated headaches. We installed the remote bass level control from the PAC interface in the overhead console. A JL Audio HD600/5 five-channel amplifier powers the system.

After removing the factory door speakers, we made adapter plates out of ABS plastic to hold a set of JL Audio C5-650X component woofers. We treated the door skins with a layer of Stinger RoadKill Expert sound deadening before mounting the adapters with corrosion-resistant factory hardware.

Custom F-450 Subwoofer Enclosure

Ford F-450 Stereo
The enclosure fit perfectly under the rear seat and was sprayed with bedliner to give it a rugged finish.

As this is a work truck, it has a rubber floor instead of carpet. We built a subwoofer enclosure for a JL Audio 10TW3-D8 that fits under the rear seat. To complement the durability of the enclosure, we sprayed it in bedliner rather than wrapping it in carpet.

Work Truck Lighting Upgrades

Ford F-450 Stereo
Rear lights were mounted under the bumper to provide lighting at night.
Ford F-450 Stereo
The curved lightbar fit perfectly into the upgraded bumper.
Ford F-450 Stereo
Strobe lights were mounted underneath the truck for safety.

We mounted a set of Rigid Industries 906512 6-inch SR series lights underneath the heavy-duty tow bar bracket. The lights are wired to come on with the factory reverse lights from a switch in the factory overhead accessory panel. A set of Rigid rock lights light up the wheel wells and add safety while working around the truck at night.

We added a set of Whelen Engineering T-Series amber and white LED strobes to the truck. We mounted one pair just above the upgraded rear bumper. We added another set on the sides of the truck’s frame to increase visibility from the sides.

The icing on the cake is a Rigid Industries RDS-Series 40” curved light bar. The LED light bar is mounted inside an opening in the custom-painted Rogue Racing front bumper. We added a Warn Zeon 12-S Platinum winch to provide a little extra persuasion when required.

Ford F-450 Stereo and Lighting Upgrades

When the client returned to Ocala Car Audio to pick up his truck, he was ecstatic! He loved the way the stereo sounded and was so excited to see the lighting at night. If you are looking for upgrades for your work truck, or your daily drive, drop into our store and talk to our team. You can also e-mail us using our contact FORM.

Ocala Client Comes To OCA For Scion XB Backup Camera Solution

Scion XB Backup Camera

A local client came to Ocala Car Audio in search of a backup camera solution for his 2006 Scion XB. The client has done business with us before.

We showed the client a few options for displaying the camera image. We started with a replacement rear view mirror, then showed him a multimedia radio. The Kenwood DDX-9903S offers a dedicated rear view camera input that shows up when the vehicle is put in reverse. This source unit also includes Bluetooth hands-free and audio streaming, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The customer loved the added features of the radio and the fact that the camera image would be displayed on a 7-inch screen.

We used an ADS Maestro RR and the TO1 harness to allow the new source unit to display information from the vehicle. The Maestro interface taps into the car’s CAN bus and shows information like tire pressure, battery voltage, coolant temperature, engine RPM and vehicle speed. We mounted an AIS LCCAM1 camera above the license plate.

The customer likes the camera system and loves the new radio.

If you are interested in a similar package for your vehicle, contact us here.

Ocala Client Gets 2015 Ford F-350 Bass Upgrade And Door Panels

F-350 Bass

A client from here in Ocala dropped by for 2015 Ford F-350 bass system upgrade quote. We offered a fair price, but the client chose to have the system designed and installed elsewhere. Shortly after the system was installed, he asked us for some help with a few small issues. After realizing that he had been sold used equipment and charged for new, he had us remove the system.

The original shop built three different enclosures – all of which failed under extreme pressure from the subs. We built a new enclosure for four JL Audio 13W7 subwoofers, each with its own Jl Audio HD1200/1 amplifier. A JL HD600/4 powers the mids and highs. We built new door panels that improved the audio system’s performance and style. We used an AudioControl LC6i to source a signal from the factory head unit.

To feed the amplifiers, we ran six runs of AWG power and six runs of ground cable from the pair of 270 Amp alternators under the hood. Four AC Delco AGM batteries ensure the amps are happy.

The client loved the way the new system sounded.

If you are planning an audio system, contact us here. We’d be happy to help.

2013 Chevrolet Silverado Audio System For Ocala Based Client

Silverado Audio
Silverado Audio
Silverado Audio
Silverado Audio

A client from Ocala, Florida, came to Ocala Car Audio for a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado audio system upgrade. He wasn’t impressed with the way the stock system sounded. He wanted the system to play louder and be clearer. There was one caveat: He also wanted to maintain a storage location for his toys. We had a look at his truck, then designed a system to meet his goals.

The client chose a Kenwood DNX892HD receiver and a Maestro RR integration module so that the radio it could display vehicle information. Tire pressure, vehicle speed and engine RPM are just a few of the pieces of information that the RR extracts from the CAN data network.

The Kenwood receiver feeds audio to a Memphis Car Audio PRX700.5 amp. The amp powers the factory speakers and a shallow-mount subwoofer. We created a custom enclosure under the rear seat that holds the sub and the amp, and still has room or the client’s toys.

The client loves the way the system sounds and is impressed with what we created for his gun.

If you are looking for an audio upgrade for your car or truck, drop by Ocala Car Audio or contact us here. Don’t forget to follow us on Facebook and Instagram!
